For weeks there have been 14 huge white balloons in front of the Sidra Medical and Research Center in Qatar.  On Monday the creator of these masterpieces, a British scientist named Damien Hirst, revealed his artwork to the sound of a beating heart.
The display, entitled “The Miracuous Journey,” is made up of fourteen monumental bronze sculptures depicting the journey of the unborn child from conception to birth.
All told, the statues, which range from 5 to 11 metres in height and which took Hirst three years to create, weigh a total of 216 metric tonnes.  The sculpture of the newborn baby boy that is the finale of the exhibit measures a staggering 46 ft. tall.
How wonderful!!!  They are amazing sculptures!

Pro-Life activists were peacefully praying the rosary for the repeal of Obamacare when a Pro-Obamacare activist knocked over the U.S. flag and then attacked the volunteers from Tradition Family and Property (TFP).

The group had been passing out flyers describing ObamaCare as a form of Christian persecution, forcing Catholics and other Christians to subsidize abortifacient contraception. They also held pro-life signs.

It looks like TFP has had previous encounters of a similar nature from “tolerant” Obamacare supporters.   Why is it that so many on the Left act out like juvenile delinquents when they come in contact with person/s who have different beliefs or opinions than their own?  You don’t see people on the Right acting like that.

Being open-minded does not mean that you’re supposed to let your brain cells pour out through a sieve and ignore reality, truth, and facts. Being open-minded does not mean being tolerant of those things which are harmful to our health and others’ health.
Today the term “open-minded” as it is used by progressives really means only being tolerant of the points of view that they agree with as well as tolerating opinions which run contrary to logic, fact, and truth while displaying intolerance of any views different from their own, e.g., those that conform to logic, fact, and eternal truth.  Being open-minded means making up your version of the truth to fit your own feelings and opinions.
If being open-minded means rejecting reality, truth, facts, and logic and exchanging those things for truth-denying opinions based on fantasy, an alternate reality, then I can gleefully accept not being labeled open-minded” by those who are open-minded like a sieve.
People who are okay with gay marriage, abortion, contraception, and euthanasia in the name of tolerance, compassion, privacy, and open-mindedness are going against the grain, rejecting God’s lawful authority over all creation and the divine prerogative to decide who lives and who dies, while believing in man-made laws born from opinions which are based on emotions are acting irrationally.
These people who claim to be open-minded and tolerant believe they know best as far as morality goes.  The so-called open-minded believe that their morality supersedes God’s laws.
According to those who claim to be open-minded anything goes all in the name of privacy because to them the choices they make only affect the person(s) involved in the decision-making process which tends to normally be primarily based on their feelings.
Is that true? Or simply an opinion based on emotion?
Let’s first start with homosexuality. Homosexuals claim to be all about privacy and for the right to do whatever they want in their bedrooms. There is no bedroom police coming after homosexuals in their homes. At least not that I know of.  Homosexuals are free to be hip having fun playing cornhole – sex – oooh love making – with each other. That is their prerogative if they wish to do so.  Homosexuals are free to engage in any sexual escapades they want to in their bedrooms.
But now homosexuals don’t merely want privacy.  They want to live out their homosexuality openly in public.
Somehow according to liberal logic privacy equals living out their homosexual lifestyle publicly. Doesn’t that defy logic? Opposites attract?
Homosexuals who at one time were calling for bedroom privacy are now demanding that they be permitted to marry not only demanding tolerance but full fledged approval from society for their openly homosexual lifestyle.
What happened to homosexuals being for privacy, left alone?
Homosexuals along with other open-minded individuals perception of reality gets a bit cloudy when they claim homosexual marriage is equal to that of traditional marriage – you know the meaning of marriage which has been around since the time of Adam and Eve, between one man and one woman.  Their claim is fallacious.
Is there even the remotest possibility that two lesbians or two homosexual men are able to procreate without the facilitation of the man-made up technological science of in vitro fertilization or artificial insemination? NO.
With 100 percent certainty I can say that there is no possibility that two homosexuals can be open to natural procreation.  God did not make it possible for that to occur.  Then we get the arguments from the Left what about the elderly or those who are infertile? In both cases each were able to be open to procreation naturally.  In the case of infertility it is still possible that God could make a way for the sperm and egg to meet and form a zygote so that an embryo could come into existence.  The elderly couple has experienced the natural cycle of life and while no longer able to achieve pregnancy when she was younger she had the ability to achieve pregnancy naturally so therefore she had the capability to procreate naturally.
Let’s go on to tackle both abortion and euthanasia at the same time.
The open-minded clamor for privacy over their own bodies. In the case of abortion pro-abortion women claim to have the right to kill another human being that’s living inside of them in the name of privacy.  These people need to murder an innocent human being to fulfill their so-called right to privacy? Wait… But I thought these people only wanted to have the right to privacy for themselves? I know I know, that liberal logic again. Somehow they consider having the right to kill another living human being equal to having their own privacy rights even though what they call their privacy is not limited to theirselves but in fact includes another living human being.
Then we have those who claim it is compassionate to kill the unborn baby especially when the baby has some sort of disability, disease, or genetic defect. These same individuals also claim that killing those persons who are sick, dying, or elderly is compassionate.  In that open-minded sieve-like brain of theirs somehow progressives believe that murdering a person equals compassion. I know another case of liberal logic defying reality.
I guess these same people believe that individuals who either physically or mentally handicapped should have never been born.  They demand for a purified humanity in a society without who they deem to be “undesirables.” Gee… That sounds familiar.
Progressives don’t believe that it is possible for individuals experiencing old age, illness, or disabilities to live meaningful lives.  Those who claim to be open-minded believe it is okay and even a better alternative for these people to be put down like a dog instead of truly showing them compassion by assisting these people in their time of need, treating them with dignity, as they go through the stages of life.
I suppose those individuals on the Left who claim to be open-minded but are either agnostic or atheists who reject God also don’t believe that there is the possibility that God’s healing touch will come upon those individuals who are experiencing old age, sickness, or a disability.
God is the author of life and He is the only one who has the authority to create new life and to take life. We must not act like pagan gods making up our own rules as we go along rejecting the One True God’s authority over all of creation. We are called to be faithful followers of God who believe in his rightful authority and who follow laws which are in accordance with God’s will, not man’s laws which run contrary to God’s laws.

In the past I have written links posts called Links… Blog and Article Highlights and Midweek Links and Thoughts… but in thinking over the last couple months I have decided to change the name and fiddle with the format a bit, with the possibility of doing more postings but having less links within my new Links, Bits, and Pieces posts.  I’m even debating on rotating between logos.  My hubby suggested that I stick with one logo but I am a person that likes some variation from time-to-time so this new posting will be a work in progress.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Is Obama’s war on coal going to hit your pocketbooks and/or wallets?

From Phil Kerpen:

Obama’s War on Coal has already taken a remarkable toll on coal-fired power plants in America.

Last week the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a shocking drop in power sector coal consumption in the first quarter of 2012. Coal-fired power plants are now generating just 36 percent of U.S. electricity, versus 44.6 percent just one year ago.

It’s the result of an unprecedented regulatory assault on coal that will leave us all much poorer.

Last week PJM Interconnection, the company that operates the electric grid for 13 states (Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia) held its 2015 capacity auction. These are the first real, market prices that take Obama’s most recent anti-coal regulations into account, and they prove that he is keeping his 2008 campaign promise to make electricity prices “necessarily skyrocket.”

The market-clearing price for new 2015 capacity – almost all natural gas – was $136 per megawatt. That’s eight times higher than the price for 2012, which was just $16 per megawatt. In the mid-Atlantic area covering New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and DC the new price is $167 per megawatt. For the northern Ohio territory served by FirstEnergy, the price is a shocking $357 per megawatt.

Why the massive price increases? Andy Ott from PJM stated the obvious: “Capacity prices were higher than last year’s because of retirements of existing coal-fired generation resulting largely from environmental regulations which go into effect in 2015.” Northern Ohio is suffering from more forced coal-plant retirements than the rest of the region, hence the even higher price.  More here

It looks like the coal numbers aren’t really the coal numbers, but may in fact a mirage coerced by the Obama administration upon the coal industry.  Nothing like fake numbers to prop up what is a failing economy to make it look good.  As many as 200, ooo blue-collar jobs may be threatened by the Obama EPA’s newest rule which strangles the economy.

In obscure, blue-collar towns across Appalachia — places that most Americans have never seen — generations of coal miners have toiled away at back-breaking labor to power American homes and industry. Now, as many as 200,000 of them who dig, process, transport and burn America’s most abundant fuel are threatened by EPA’s latest coal rule.
It imposes a standard for emissions that is all but impossible for many plants to meet. It requires coal-fired plants to release no more than 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt hour. More here

Lisa @ Catholic Bandita has a good post pointing out how Cardinal Dolan is under attack  a la Saul Alinsky’s, Rules for Radicals, exposes the tactics waged by the Left, and also a good defense of Cardinal Dolan and the Church.  The question is, will Cardinal Dolan wake up to what the Democratic *is* today instead of reminiscing on what the Party used to be and stop living in that past?  He seems to be more lenient with the Democrats than the Republicans. The Democratic Party is no longer the Party for the people.  It is run by mob rule today.

Unfortunately even with the GOP having a majority in the House they were unable to get more than 20 Dems to cross the aisle in order to pass the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act with 2/3 majority which would have stopped the latest violence being perpetrated against females, female babies. It is extremely sad when citizens, especially women, think its okay to kill girls in the womb just because they are girls. Sick. Matt at Conservative Hideout has the scoop on the fact that this legislation protected minorities from also being targeted.  He has great insight into the reason Democrats voted against this legislation. Does that make Democrats racist supporters of murder?

I have been reading my old friend and grad school apartment mate Kyle Cupp lately at his blog Journeys In Alterity, now at the League of Ordinary Gentlemen.  The last time I responded here to something he wrote it was quite well received and, much to my shock, got attention in some serious climate science circles, with helpful criticism and a surprising amount of generous praise (see here and here  and here).  While that’s not likely to happen again soon, it has made me less reticent to read the words of my old friend, who has, as he puts it, “gone over to the dark side.”  Today I conceived of a piece that I thought worthy of publishing here as a response to something he recently posted at his site.

Puzzled by the fact that a pro-life organization near to him (Texas Right To Life) had him on a mailing list, he decided to critically examine what they sent him, which was  a very cute campaign ad for a local candidate for the Texas Stae House, Scott Turner, endorsed by TRTL.  Here is the the image of one side of what appeared in Kyle’s mailbox:

Questions arose about the age of the baby.  At one point Kyle actually suggested that the baby was too old to have an interest in voting pro-life:

Obviously, the imperative “vote like a baby” is supposed to mean “vote pro-life,” and yet the ad itself, which features a child closer to a year of age instead of a baby in the womb, suggests a voting ethic that takes more into consideration than just abortion.  This cheerful, flag-waving baby has more at stake than not being killed.  Perhaps the election of Scott Turner isn’t in his interest.

Kyle then went on to speculate about the baby’s ill-fitting jeans (which, in my not so humble opinion, only makes the pic all the more adorable and, as propaganda, was  a stroke of genius).  Perhaps the baby is poor, has no health insurance, and thus he should vote for the Democrat who promises to keep him dependent on public assistance and sucking on the Big Government teat from the cradle to the grave?

Well, that’s one possibility, but when I allow myself the time for mental play and engage in speculation about the ad, I take the baby’s support for the pro-life candidate named on the back of the card as a given and go from there instead of second guessing his decision about what is in his own interests.   Then I ask, why might a baby who is no longer in danger of being brutally murdered in the womb want to vote for the pro-life candidate,  and some possibilities occur to me, which I offer under a rhyming title that spontaneously popped into my head this morning: Maybe The Baby…

Maybe The Baby…

…has an interest in his younger brothers and sisters being protected by law and valued as what they truly are from the moment they begin to live: human persons with rights.

…just isn’t as comfortable with the length of the slippery slope from abortion to infanticide as we non-infants can afford to be.

…is too young to have been tragically intellectually corrupted by postmodern philosophy.

…is just grateful for making it out of the womb alive and, out of gratitude, wants to support those who have always been on the side of his humanity and dignity.
