I do think that Hollywood could tone the violence down in movies. I think ultimately the responsibility lies with the parents. It is their responsibility to decide what is acceptable for their kids to watch. I don’t think passing a new law is the answer. We need to change the attitudes of parents, adults, and children in our society so they don’t think that violence is acceptable. Violence is an unacceptable means to achieve a desire, a want, or a need. We need to change hearts and minds on this issue. Laws can help achieve this, to guide a person in one direction or another, but in the end it is up to the individual to choose good or evil, violence or peaceful means to achieve their goals. While I am not for laws to limit violence in Hollywood I ask how can we educate our youth when the parents fail? How do we reduce the violence in our society?

[…] Catholibertarian: Does Hollywood Need To Rethink Its Relationship To Violence? […]
Every adult sets examples for young folk. When you walk around in the store absentmindedly singing to yourself as you shop, what are you singing? What slang do you use — it is all based on violence, or does it come from a wide range of literal origins? What is on your clothing? When a 13-year-old goes tot he mall after school and sees about every fourth adult either singing about a gunfight or wearing a sweatshirt that advertises a concert tour with a violent design and name, or perusing movies about death and mayhem, he doesn’t believe that the world he is about to move into really rejects violence. He sees evidence that adults really accept violence more than they say they do. We have to be aware that kids can see us even if they aren’t our own kids.
