The Al Smith Dinner may not be an awards ceremony or a religious event such as a liturgical ceremony or a sacrament  are but it is a Catholic event which benefits Catholic organizations.

President Obama has not only shown himself to be less than a friend to the Church but in fact has directed his administration to institute the HHS mandate which poses an existential threat to the Church and it’s organizations’ existence as Catholic entities.  Should Cardinal Dolan have invited such a prominent political antagonist of the Church to such a prestigious Catholic event where Obama is going to be wined, dined, and have a prime time speaking spot?

I tried looking at some positive reasons why Cardinal Dolan would have invited President Obama to this event with his having knowledge of how hostile Obama has been to the Catholic Church and pretty much any person who has a differing point of view than him.

By inviting Obama to the dinner could Cardinal Dolan be trying to avoid an all out assault on the Catholic Church? Could he be trying to be non-partisan? Could he be trying to schmooze the president into dropping the HHS mandate?

Let’s start with the latter one. I doubt it. One night at the Al Smith dinner isn’t going to convince the President to drop the HHS mandate. His freedom-hating, anti-religious constituents wouldn’t be too happy about his dropping the HHS mandate.  And he can’t lose his constituents if he wants any chance of winning reelection.

The second one may be true. But if non-partisan means shoving your faith under the rug for one night just to show a leader civility and/or cordiality should that really happen?

Does showing civility to someone necessarily have to include whining and dining with them? Since he has shown to be more of an enemy than a friend to the Church over the past 4 years wouldn’t the appropriate thing to do be to pray for his conversion?

The first one could be a possibility too but…. hasn’t President Obama already declared war on the Church with the HHS mandate?

Some people think it’s okay for Obama to have a photo-op with Cardinal Dolan. What harm could that pose to the Church? Well, there are already so many confused and misinformed Catholics out there who don’t understand the difference between those matters of prudential judgement and those matters which are non-negotiables he could use this photo-op to legitimize his moral standing as far as voting goes with Catholics. Obama has already used the Church for his political gain. The Catholic Church in Chicago funded his radical community organizing efforts. One product of Obama and his ilks infiltration of the Church is social justice Catholics today. Social Justice Catholics believe that the non-negotiables can be swept to the side, given little or no consideration while treating the negotiable matters as if they were the non-negotiables.

Some people may say that it isn’t right for Cardinal Dolan to invite Mitt Romney, the GOP presidential candidate and not invite President Obama. Has Romney posed an existential threat to the Catholic Church? No. Does Romney believe in the Church’s right to religious liberty? Yes. In fact Romney has defended the Catholic faith and the Church’s right to believe the tenets of the faith.  Catholics are being told to violate their consciences.  Mitt Romney said that “we are all Catholics now”.  Romney may not be perfect in his beliefs on abortion since he believes in the rape exception but he sure is a heck of a lot better than Obama on that issue. Obama believes that women should have the “right to choose” to murder their offspring, their unborn child with absolutely no limitations. If we have the chance to lessen the evil in the world we should. Voting Obama out of office, voting for Mitt Romney, and allowing Romney to stop Obama’s freedom-hating policies while also instituting new policies of his own would go a long way toward reducing evil in our nation.

Sr. Carol Keehan lied when it came to Obamacare covering abortions. It does.  One more example that Obamacare does indeed cover abortion.  Her claim gave cover to naive Catholics so that they would support Obamacare.  Now she is deceiving people again, all for her personal and professional gain.  She has accepted the “compromise” even though the compromise is no real compromise at all.  Sr. Keehan said the compromise  “has responded to the issues we identified that needed to be fixed.’’  The so-called compromise didn’t change a thing.  Insurers were always going to be the ones providing the contraceptives and abortion inducing drugs.  They still are going to be the provider.  Since it is a must for employers to provide insurance to their employees there is no change.  She has chosen money over her faith.  She has chosen money over the Church’s and individuals right to religious freedom.  She is an unfaithful nun who needs to have a courageous priest, bishop, or Cardinal explain to her that her dissent from Church teaching and the bishops is unacceptable and scandalous.

Here is a very good article I thought that I would pass on to all my readers.

The article is called The Little Sisters of Limousine Liberalism by George Neumayr:

How much is Sr. Carol Keehan worth to the pro-Obamacare Catholic Health Association? Answer: $962,467.

I called up the Catholic Health Association (CHA) yesterday. I wanted to nail down the exact compensation figures for some of its executives, including the salary and benefits of Sister Obamacare, also known as Daughter of Charity nun Carol Keehan, who last week helped Barack Obama engineer his latest con job — the bogus conscience “compromise” designed to hoodwink Catholics into voting for his reelection.

As it has been widely reported, Obama conferred with Sister Keehan before his announcement last Friday. Then, lo and behold, she praised his revision as an inspiring resolution to the thorny issue of “religious freedom” soon after the sham event concluded.

So let’s get down to brass tacks. How much is Sister Keehan worth for such political interventions? The checkered Catholic hospitals Keehan represents as chief executive officer of the Catholic Health Association stand to receive gobs and gobs of cash from the federal government if Obamacare holds up past 2012. Consequently, the members of the association are more than happy to pony up huge salaries to executives skilled at manipulating the Catholic electorate for Obama.

Keehan is worth $962,467 to them in total salary and benefits, according to the Schedule J (Form 990) 2010 document sent to me by CHA. Theoretically, this is paid to the nun’s order, though CHA adds an intriguing caveat to its compensation figures:

The descriptions below provide an overview of the composition of the five compensation figure columns (B, C, D, E and F). Note that for Sisters Carol Keehan and Patricia Talone and for Father Tom Nairn, all amounts in column B, except for certain fringe benefits included in column (B)(iii), were paid to their respective orders.

In other words, not all the money goes to their religious orders. What are these “certain fringe benefits” to which the caveat refers? I didn’t get a comprehensible answer from CHA. But its spokesman assured me that these “certain fringe benefits” weren’t large. Maybe the Wall Street Journal should drill down into the numbers.

According to the form, base compensation for “Daughters of Charity for Sr. Keehan” was $682,982. “Bonus and incentive compensation” was $136,000. “Other reportable compensation” — which is the (B)(iii) to which the caveat refers — was $131,888. Nontaxable benefits were $11,597. All this adds up to salary and benefits totaling $962,467.

Presumably, her 2011 salary and benefits will exceed $1 million, if the past is any measure. (Her 2009 salary and benefits fell in the $850,000 range.)

It turns out that left-wing “Catholic Social Justice” is a good career move. Sister Talone, to which the caveat refers above, pulls down for the Sisters of Mercy “$416,623″ in total compensation, while Fr. Nairn’s order, the Franciscan Friars, snatched $194,947.

Who knew that lobbying for the corporal works of mercy paid so well? Of course, the dirty little secret of secularized “non-profit” Catholic hospitals is that they rake in enormous profits. Hence, some of its executives garner salaries/benefits north of $9 million. Obamacare will release another avalanche of federal government cash with which to feather their nests.

“For where your treasure is, your heart will be also,” said Jesus Christ. A pedestrian reduction of the Son of God’s saying is: Follow the money.  CONTINUED HERE
