Sister Margaret A. Farley R.S.M’s book: “Just Love. A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics,” stated that homosexual acts, masturbation, and divorce can be morally acceptable.  Now the Vatican has corrected this wayward nun, reaffirming the sinfulness of homosexual acts, masturbation, and divorce.  The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith asserts that her book contradicts Catholic doctrine.  The Vatican had sent Sr.  Farley notification of the doctrinal problems in her book but since she failed to clarify or fix the errors the CDF proceeded to publish the Notification  in defense of the faith. The Pope gave his approval of Cardinal Levada’s corrections.

“The Vatican asserts that Sr. Farley’s book contains ‘erroneous propositions, the dissemination of which risks grave harm to the faithful’ and expresses deep regret that Sr. Farley ‘affirms positions that are in direct contradiction with Catholic teaching in the field of sexual morality.’”

Cardinal William Joseph Levada corrects Sr. Farley’s opinions:

In her book, Sr. Farley claims that homosexual relationships and activities “can be justified according to the same sexual ethic as heterosexual relationships and activities.” “This opinion is not acceptable,” declares the Vatican Notification.

In its Notification, the Vatican clarifies that while people with homosexual tendencies must be respected, in no way can homosexual acts or unions be approved. Homosexual acts, the Vatican reiterates, are “acts of grave depravity.”

The Vatican distinguishes between “persons with homosexual tendencies and homosexual acts.” While persons with homosexual tendencies must be treated with respect, compassion and sensitivity, and “every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided,” nevertheless homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered.”

The CDF also condemned Sr. Farley’s views on homosexual unions. Sr. Farley urges that U.S. legislation should support “social recognition and legal standing to unions between lesbians and gays,” making such unions equal to heterosexual unions. “This position,” states the Notification, “is opposed to the teaching of the Magisterium.”

On masturbation, Sr. Farley had written that it “usually does not raise any moral questions at all,” and maintains that it is not a moral issue, and can actually benefit relationships.

The Vatican refutes this, explaining: “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose. For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved.” Contrary to Farley’s assertions, the Vatican says masturbation is, “an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.”

Sr. Farley also maintains that divorce is sometimes acceptable, stating that marriages may be “subject to release” especially in situations “in which too much has changed” in the relationship.

“This opinion,” states the CDF Notification, “is in contradiction to Catholic teaching on the indissolubility of marriage.” The Vatican declares that not only is divorce illicit, but also in cases of marriage after divorce, “the new union cannot be recognized as valid.”

Kudos to the Vatican for correcting this wayward nun in such a public manner in defense of the faith.

Are those who advocate for homosexuals to have the right to openly serve in the military enabling the intrinsically disordered sexual act to occur more frequently than before? Serving in the military, whether heterosexual or homosexual, is not a human right. In fact, the recruits must meet certain qualifications to be able to enter the military. If gays openly serving in the military was really a human rights issue then why aren’t all human beings allowed to serve in the military, regardless of their disabilities? Why don’t those who are handicapped have a right to serve in the military? Is that not being intolerant and discriminatory?

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was the perfect medium which prevented persecution and discrimination. The military didn’t need to know the sexual orientation of their soldiers. Homosexuals were allowed to serve in the military, just not openly. Those who are in favor of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” have put one segment of the population’s sexuality above the military’s mission, the principles and main goals of the military. How does having knowledge that someone is homosexual benefit either the military or the other men and women serving in the military? If fact there is a good case to be made that having gays openly serving in the military will lower morale and have a negative impact on the military and the way it functions. There is no right for gays to openly serve in the military.

Those who have endorsed the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” are in effect giving their endorsement for sexually perverse behavior. To endorse the “right” for homosexuals to openly serve in the military one must have an acceptance not only of their personhood but also for their homosexual lifestyle. Those who claim that gay rights is a human rights issue and support homosexuals openly serving in the military may see themselves as being tolerant but what exactly are they being tolerant of? A homosexual person’s openness about the sexual nature of his lifestyle? What progressives claim to be tolerance is the enemy of morals truths, ethical morality, or moral goodness. They want more than tolerance. They want society’s approval of the homosexual lifestyle. What progressives call tolerance goes way beyond avoiding discrimination and promoting respect for the person. It crosses the line into an illicit acceptance of immoral behavior.

Those who demand “tolerance” do not practice what they preach. They are extremely hostile to those who conscientiously object to homosexual behavior. Since the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” the discrimination has been against those who object to homosexual acts.

Timothy Broglio, the Archbishop for the Military Services in the USA is against the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. In his post Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Implemented Kelly J. Wilson believes that “The Archbishop is on the wrong side of this issue.”

I happen to differ and believe that the Archbishop is on the right side of this issue.

Focusing on one’s sexual orientation has no place in the military. The military is for defense of one’s nation and should not play politics with one’s sexual orientation. What is the need for either homosexuals or heterosexuals to display their sexual escapades openly while serving overseas?

Here is what the Catechism has to say on homosexuality:

Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.”142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

The focus is clearly on chastity. Why do homosexuals need to “come out” while serving in the military if they are going to live chaste lives? The problem is that the majority in the military who are openly homosexual are not living chaste lives.

Kelly Wilson stated: “Have the ‘moral beliefs of individuals [and] their living conditions’ really been sacrificed as the Archbishop suggests? I wouldn’t think so. A Catholic service man or service woman is not being asked to cease to believe what the Church believes, and if such a person is really so inconvenienced in his or her ‘living conditions’ merely because a known homosexual person lives and sleeps in close proximity, then perhaps it is time for that service person to either grow up, or find employment elsewhere.”

But can they really express Catholic beliefs openly 24/7 on homosexuality or any other issue?

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was a happy medium between the time prior to its implementation where homosexuals were sought out and dismissed by the military and now where there are fears of discrimination directed at those with religious beliefs who speak out against homosexuality and homosexual acts. This is a threat to every Americans religious freedom. This is what liberals (or non-traditionalists) like Kelly Wilson don’t understand, what they perceive to be “fair” has far-reaching harmful implications and actually causes discrimination and “Christianophobia”. In fact, yes, they are being asked to cease their beliefs on homosexuality. Since the military has threatened the chaplains what makes you think that they won’t pressure and threaten servicemen to switch their beliefs? The military is even threatening to court-martial chaplains who speak out against homosexuality.

When you recognize homosexuals and allow them to declare their homosexuality openly you are in effect approving of their homosexual acts.

Rick Santorum answered a question on the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” during the last GOP debate and his answer is spot on (embedding is unfortunately disabled).

Here is a video showing that Rick Santorum does indeed support all soldiers including Stephen Hill, the homosexual soldier who asked the question at the debate.

Carrie's Take

A virus is spreading throughout the world. It affects the comprehension and common sense portion of the brain and leaves its victims dumbed-down and easily herded by the propaganda masters and their political cult. Carrie’s Take strives to provide an antidote to the mind-control and hopefully will stir up memories of long ago when our society demanded truth & honesty in journalism and expected it to be the guardian of facts, rather than PR mouth pieces for self-serving politicians and their personal agendas. ~Carrie K.
