The host Doug Keck of EWTN Bookmark interviewed Ellen Edmonds who wrote a book called “Embracing Dementia”. Ellen Edmonds wrote this book after haven taken care of her husband when he had dementia. She wanted to help others who are taking care of mothers, fathers, husbands, wives or grandparents who have dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. I know SR has been helping her dad take care of her mom who has Alzheimer’s Disease. It can be rough or tough to see a parent or spouse going through these diseases, not remembering who you are or their thinking you’re still a child in their minds. When I was in high school my Pop Pop had Alzheimer’s Disease. When we would visit my grandfather he would think my dad was his brother and would call my dad his brother’s name. I could see the how much this hurt my dad. This is an extremely tough disease for everyone, the person that has the disease and the people taking care of those who have this illness. We are called to love, and specifically sacrificial love. Just remember God is with you as you go through this. He will give you the strength to get through this tough time. This was a great interview, well worth the half-hour listening time. Here is the website for the book Embracing Dementia. I hope listening to the interview helps SR and all those who are experiencing the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. This book sounds like it would be very helpful for those who are taking care of loved ones with either dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. My thoughts and prayers are with SR, her family, everyone who has dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, and all those taking care of family members who have dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. God Bless.

Women, the Catholic Church, and the Therapeutic Use of the “Pill”
Posted in Catholic Church, Catholic Church Doctrine, Catholicism, Christian, Christianity, encyclical, Ethics, Health Care, Morality, Pro-Life, Theology, tagged conditions, contraception, endometriosis, female health problems, health issues, helps, Humanae Vitae, the pill, therapeutic use, treatment, treats, women on April 27, 2013 | 6 Comments »
I feel a bit of umbrage when someone who hasn’t experienced problems with female health issues makes the assertion that the pill, ”contraception for women were NEVER designed to improve their health.” This gives the implication that the pill can never be used to help with more severe female health issues when that isn’t the case. As a female who has severe endometriosis I have experienced the good of the “pill”, it helping with me severe pain. Maybe I’m being a little touchy on this subject but it is so disappointing when men or women who have had no experience in this area, as far as experiencing major female problems, insinuate or claim that the “pill” can never improve your health. Obviously the intention of the creator of the “pill” and other contraceptives was to prevent conception. The pill was designed particularly for this purpose. With the exception of the above issue which ruffled my feathers Fr. Jason Smith at Biltrix wrote a great post called What Every Married Couple Should Know About the Truth of Sex and the Lie of Contraception which I encourage everyone to read.
Last year when I struggled in making a decision of whether it was licit to take birth control pills if it was for a severe health condition I wrote a post called Women’s Health, Conscience, and Humanae Vitae asking for people’s’ opinions and advice on the matter. Unfortunately, in the end “the pill” didn’t help and I needed a hysterectomy. When taking the “pill” for a medical condition the woman needs to weigh the risks of the side effects with the need to take the pill for the medical condition. There are some serious side effects that can occur when taking the ” pill” – blood clots in legs and brains and breast cancer – but then again, every medicine has side effects so women just need to make informed decisions. Now, there may be better health care options to treat certain female conditions which are more aligned with Catholic teaching but I’m not sure whether there is or not.
I will leave you with a quote from the encyclical Humanae Vitae:
15. On the other hand, the Church does not consider at all illicit the use of those therapeutic means necessary to cure bodily diseases, even if a foreseeable impediment to procreation should result there from—provided such impediment is not directly intended for any motive whatsoever. (19)
So taking the “pill” for therapeutic reasons is NOT illicit and is in line with teachings of the Catholic Church.

To be honest I am feeling quite sad but I am not going to let my feelings get me down. Here is some of what’s been in the news recently. Yeah, I know its kinda weird but politics and news brings some cheer to me.
More doctors prefer Romney over Obama. In the survey that was administered it said that 15% of those doctors surveyed are switching their votes from Obama in 08′ to Romney in November. The major factor is Obamacare and the present administration refusing to take tort reform head on.
High school kids are protesting the new “one-size-fits-all approach to dining” in school cafeterias. More high school kids revolt over new federal lunch regulations.
I can understand preparing healthier food for school students but reducing the portions seems nonsensical IMO. I doubt the portions were that big to begin with.
A Philadelphia teacher compared a girl’s Romney/Ryan T-shirt to KKK attire and kicked her out of the classroom for wearing that shirt. That is utterly ridiculous! Disagree with her but don’t violate her freedom of speech. And don’t punish her for expressing her views which fall under the right to free speech. http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/04/high-schooler-kicked-out-of-class-for-wearing-romney-shirt/
Apparently a new anti-fracking film that Matt Damon stars in, which will be released in theaters in December, is funded by an Arab oil-rich nation. The movie is funded by United Arab Emirates.
From the Daily Caller:
A new film starring Matt Damon presents American oil and natural gas producers as money-grubbing villains purportedly poisoning rural American towns. It is therefore of particular note that it is financed in part by the royal family of the oil-rich United Arab Emirates.
The creators of Promised Land have gone to absurd lengths to vilify oil and gas companies, as Scribe’s Michael Sandoval noted Wednesday. Since recent events have demonstrated the relative environmental soundness of hydraulic fracturing – a technique for extracting oil and gas from shale formations – Promised Land’s script has been altered to make doom-saying environmentalists the tools of oil companies attempting to discredit legitimate “fracking” concerns.
While left-leaning Hollywood often targets supposed environmental evildoers, Promised Landwas also produced “in association with” Image Media Abu Dhabi, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media, according to the preview’s list of credits. A spokesperson with DDA Public Relations, which runs PR for Participant Media, the company that developed the film fund backingPromised Land, confirmed that AD Media is a financier. The company is wholly owned by the government of the UAE.
So for some reason Matt Damon is against American oil and natural gas producers but is okay with Arab nations making bookoo bucks off of oil production. That makes no sense.
Pope Benedict XVI is getting ready to install two new doctors to the Church – St. John of Avila and St. Hildegard of Bingen. Awesome!!
Islamists murder Christians in Nigeria.
More than nine months after Boko Haram, an Islamist terror organization in Nigeria, demanded that Christians immediately vacate the northern states of that African nation, Christians are continuing to be murdered while the government struggles to wage a campaign against the destabilizing guerrilla forces.
The most recent attack perpetrated by members of Boko Haram took place in the northern city of Bauchi, when a car bomb was detonated by its driver at the gates of St. John’s Church. For years, Boko Haram — a name which means “Western education is sinful” in the Hausa language — has waged a campaign of terror against the people of Nigeria in an effort to impose sharia law and to divide the nation between Islamic and Christian territories. As reported previously for The New American, the leadership of Boko Haram demanded in January of this year that all Christians immediately flee the northern states of Nigeria, which the Islamist organization believes should be inhabited only by Muslims. The demand came in the aftermath of Christmas Day bombings which killed dozens of people and left almost 100 wounded.
The September 23 attack on St. John’s Catholic Church was initially reported to have killed two people and wounded nearly 50 others; these figures were later adjusted to report four fatalities — not including the terrorist — with 48 wounded. The attack was the second such anti-Christian assault in Bauchi in one week.
Please everyone let us keep Christians in Nigeria and Christians being persecuted and experiencing violence in our prayers. May God please keep Christians safe. Let us pray:
The Light of God
The light of God surrounds us,
The love of God enfolds us,
The power of God protects us,
The presence of God watches over us,
Wherever we are, God is,
And where God is, all is well.
St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John,
Like unto the prophet Jonas, as a type of Christ,
Who was guarded for three days and
Three nights in the belly of a whale,
Thus shall the Almighty God,
As a Father, guard and protect me from all evil.
Grant me Protection
Grant, O Lord, Thy protection
And in protection, strength
And in strength, understanding
And in understanding, knowledge
And in knowledge, the knowledge of justice
And in the knowledge of justice, the love of it
And in the love of it, the love of all existences
And in that love, the love of spirit and all creation.
God Bless.

The Other McCain points out that the New Romney Ad Quotes Obama:
TAMPA, Florida
Barack Obama became president by attacking what have since become his own policies. In 2008, candidate Obama accused John McCain of planning “drastic cuts in Medicare, $882 billion worth.” President Obama has cut $716 billion from MediCare to pay for ObamaCare, as the Mitt Romney campaign reminds voters in a new ad:
This ad is beautiful, the way Mitt Romney uses Obama’s own words against him. Pure genius in my book.
Peaceful Pro-Lifers Praying Rosary Attacked By Pro-Obamacare Activist

Pro-Life activists were peacefully praying the rosary for the repeal of Obamacare when a Pro-Obamacare activist knocked over the U.S. flag and then attacked the volunteers from Tradition Family and Property (TFP).
The group had been passing out flyers describing ObamaCare as a form of Christian persecution, forcing Catholics and other Christians to subsidize abortifacient contraception. They also held pro-life signs.
It looks like TFP has had previous encounters of a similar nature from “tolerant” Obamacare supporters. Why is it that so many on the Left act out like juvenile delinquents when they come in contact with person/s who have different beliefs or opinions than their own? You don’t see people on the Right acting like that.
Five New Taxes To Hit Your Wallet in 2013 Courtesy of Obamacare
Posted in Constitution, Economics, Economy, Health Care, tagged Affordable Care Act, big government, flexible spending account, government, health care, investment income, leviathan, medical device, medicare, Obamacare, payroll, State, tax increase, taxes on July 16, 2012 | 2 Comments »
From now until 2018 there will be 20 new or higher taxes thanks to the Affordable Care Act, which is also known as Obamacare. So far it looks like Obamacare isn’t too affordable. Here are the five new taxes that will hit your wallet in 2013.
1. The ObamaCare Medical Device Manufacturing Tax
2. The ObamaCare High Medical Bills Tax
3. The ObamaCare Flexible Spending Account Cap
4. The ObamaCare Surtax on Investment Income
5. The ObamaCare Medicare Payroll Tax increase
Here are explanations for each of those taxes.
1. The ObamaCare Medical Device Manufacturing Tax
This 2.3 percent tax on medical device makers will raise the price of (for example) every pacemaker, prosthetic limb, stent, and operating table. Can you remind us, Mr. President, how taxing medical devices will reduce the cost of health care? The tax is particularly destructive because it is levied on gross sales and even targets companies who haven’t turned a profit yet.
These are often small, scrappy companies with less than 20 employees who pioneer the next generation of life-prolonging devices. In addition to raising the cost of health care, this $20 billion tax over the next ten years will not help the country’s jobs outlook, as the industry employs nearly 400,000 Americans. Several companies have already responded to the looming tax by cutting research and development budgets and laying off workers.
2. The ObamaCare High Medical Bills Tax
This onerous tax provision will hit Americans facing the highest out-of-pocket medical bills. Currently, Americans are allowed to deduct medical expenses on their 1040 form to the extent the costs exceed 7.5 percent of one’s adjusted gross income.
The new ObamaCare provision will raise that threshold to 10 percent, subjecting patients to a higher tax bill. This tax will hit pre-retirement seniors the hardest. Over the next ten years, affected Americans will pony up a minimum total of $15 billion in taxes thanks to this provision.
In addition to the religious liberty infringements that Obamacare presents us with there are also the economic ramifications on America that we must be concerned with which makes it imperative for us to repeal this law to stop this out of control leviathan state.
Women’s Health, Conscience, and Humanae Vitae

When it comes to our conscience we need to ask God for guidance. We need to do some deep soul-searching as to what is right and wrong. We need to ask ourselves questions such as:
Is it right to intentionally prevent life from being formed, from being created?
Is it right to use contraception just so you can have sex with whom and at any time you wish?
Is it right to murder your offspring – via abortion – just to cover up for consequences brought on by your promiscuous behavior?
The answers related to issues of sexual morality become complex when women’s health issues come to bear such as excessive menstruation accompanied by severe pain, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and other problems associated with ovarian cysts.
From Humanae Vitae:
15. On the other hand, the Church does not consider at all illicit the use of those therapeutic means necessary to cure bodily diseases, even if a foreseeable impediment to procreation should result there from—provided such impediment is not directly intended for any motive whatsoever. (19)
Question: If a woman who is married uses Low-Ogestrel® for endometriosis and the hitherto infertile married couple continues to be sexually active during the period of time when she takes a pill that is usually used by others for birth control would that be licit under the principle enunciated in paragraph 15 of Humane Vitae?
What of the danger of breakthrough ovulations that could become fertilized but are unable to implant due to the effect of the medication? Would that situation fall under the principle of double effect?
Obamacare: Biggest Middle Class Tax Hike in American History

Nearly 75% of Obamacare costs will fall on people earning $120,000 or less per year.
Democrats lied to the American people when they claimed that the mandated payment for refusal to purchase health insurance wasn’t a tax. Then, the administration argued that it was a tax before the Supreme Court. Now, they’re denying that it is a tax after Chief Justice Roberts declared the penalty payment to be a tax.
From Gateway Pundit:
A Fraud Has Been Perpetrated On the American Citizenry
Democrats told us Obamacare was not a tax. Then they went before the Supreme Court and argued that it was a tax. Now they’re saying it’s not a tax again.
The American Spectator reported:
Critics of the majority’s decision will say for the foreseeable future that Chief Justice Roberts rewrote Obamacare to save it. Michael Carvin, who argued against Obamacare before the Supreme Court, noted dryly, “I’m glad he rewrote the statute instead of the Constitution.”
Carvin’s summary of the Supreme Court’s ruling was on target: “What the Obama Administration… thought they were doing was completely unconstitutional; what they lied to the American people about was constitutional.… Unfortunately they got away with that bait-and-switch. A fraud has been perpetrated on the American citizenry.”
In oral arguments before the Supreme Court, the administration’s attorneys argued — as they knew they had to — that the mandate was constitutional as a tax. This despite the fact that Democrats passed Obamacare by stating specifically and repeatedly that the mandate was not a tax, including a testy response by President Obama himself to unusually challenging questioning by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in 2009.
As recently as a few months ago, President Obama’s budget director said in a Congressional hearing that the mandate is not a tax, with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius saying “it operates as a tax, but it is not per se a tax.”
If the bill had been marketed to members of Congress and the public as a tax, it is unlikely that even the Cornhusker Kickback and the Louisiana Purchase would have been enough to pass the law, despite the large Democrat congressional majorities at the time. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that “if it had been seen as a tax, they wouldn’t have gotten ten votes, much less sixty.”
As for those Democrats in Congress who have argued, and may continue to argue, that the Obamacare mandate is not a tax, Graham said “they either don’t know what they’re doing, or they lied to us. So this is a huge issue in the fall.” Graham called for every Congressional Republican who is up for election to ask their Democratic opponents whether they support this tax increase; given that Democrats have little choice but to support Obamacare, this is the political equivalent of asking someone if he has stopped beating his wife yet, and a solid political tactic.
Nearly 75% of ObamaTax costs will fall on the backs of those Americans making less than $120,000 a year.
