I am totally psyched! This is awesome!!! We now have a new Pope. Kevin and I have been glued to the TV watching with excitement awaiting the announcement of who is the new Pope. The College of Cardinals chose Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio to be the 266th Pope. He has chosen the name Francis I. Our new Pope is Pope Francis I. Awesome!! Totally awesome!!! Pope Francis I is from Argentina. He is the first non-European, first South American, and first Jesuit Pope. Magnificent!! May the Holy Spirit guide him as he leads the Catholic Church. God Bless him.

I was in the Confessions of St. Augustine seminar class that I’m taking when my phone went off indicating white smoke. I ran up to the instructor and practically shoved it in his face and he made the announcement. We all found a TV and sat riveted for the next hour or so. It’s been a very exciting afternoon. Prayer for Pope Francis and for the universal Church.
This being the first conclave and papal election I have witness as being a Catholic, I can honestly say this has made my 4 years of being a Catholic! What an exciting proceeding. I felt the Holy Spirit’s hand the entire time, and I feel VERY confident and encouraged with the future of our Church more so now than ever. God be with Pope Francis!

One last thing, I know I’m getting ahead of myself and the Church, but doesn’t Pope Francis the Argentinian sound like a name of a future saint? … Just saying… =)

I have not had time to watch anything and I am so thankful you posted this video. Will be back tomorrow to watch it, as I am sleepy tonight. I think God did well in choosing our new Pope! I am excited as well, and am looking so forward to the months/years ahead with him. I believe he is extremely humble, and extremely Catholic. I don’t know if I’m just nitpicking, but the Vatican says his name is just Francis not “Francis I”.
Just saw that today. The Pontiff will be referred to as Pope Francis from now on. But should there ever be a Pope Francis II then Pope Francis would be called Pope Francis I. Interesting, huh? God Bless.

Francis seems to be a leader, not just one who presides… I am sure his security folk are having a fit with him. Betcha that pretty soon, a lot of Church hot shots will be just as upset, bureaucrats particularly. And the political Left may find him more upsetting than the traditional Right, seems to me. We may see a scene recalling the money changers in the Temple… I suspect he’s going to be a lot of fun!
