According to Politico Sean Hannity stated on his radio program that he has ‘evolved’ on immigration and now supports a ‘pathway to citizenship’ for undocumented immigrants in this country.
From Politico:
“It’s simple to me to fix it,” Hannity said. “I think you control the border first. You create a pathway for those people that are here — you don’t say you’ve got to go home. And that is a position that I’ve evolved on. Because, you know what, it’s got to be resolved. The majority of people here, if some people have criminal records you can send them home, but if people are here, law-abiding, participating for years, their kids are born here, you know, first secure the border, pathway to citizenship, done.”
“You can’t let the problem continue — it’s got to stop,” the conservative radio host added.
My position on the immigration issue has also evolved. I agree with Hannity. Our nation needs to provide a pathway to citizenship for those undocumented immigrants living here in the U.S.
With saying that….
In the 80′s President Reagan brokered a deal with the Democrat controlled congress to grant amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants in exchange for the Democrats making sure that the border would be secured or closed. Reagan kept his end of the bargain. However, Democrats in congress failed to keep their end of the deal and they broke their promise to close the border. Democrats breaking promises? No big surprise here.
Compromise is needed from both Democrats and Republicans on the immigration issue. If the border is secured, or in the process there of and funding for the border project continues as necessary, then I am okay with supporting a pathway to citizenship for the undocumented immigrants in the United States.

There’s already a ‘path to citizenship’ – it’s right here: http://www.uscitizenship.info/ins-citizenship-process.html. Yes, it takes a long time; yes, it costs money. But trying to create a whole new ‘path’ is reinventing the wheel, something our government seems exceptionally good at.
Processing 12+ – million illegals already here is going to DEMAND sealing of our borders to ALL immigration during the processing. Why? In order to process 12+ – million applications in a timely manner, there can’t be ANY more incoming applications to divert manpower and resources.
And you can bank on it, nobody’s going to make a call to completely seal our borders to immigrants for ANY period of time.
They talk about ‘streamlining’ the citizenship process. I have yet to hear how they plan on doing that. But here’s a sarcastic thought: American citizens aren’t required to know American history anymore, so let’s drop the citizenship ‘test’; America doesn’t have an official language, so let’s just provide someone who speaks whatever language they like give the oath of citizenship (it’s not like the words really matter anymore); then let’s take their picture, stamp them an ID card, give them a Social Security number (theirs, not some dead person’s) and shove them out the door as American citizens.
Okay, sarcasm aside, I fully back following the rules of becoming a citizen of the US; what I don’t back is seeing these folks breaking those rules and saying, in essence, ‘Well, that’s okay’, which is what I think every time I hear the word ‘amnesty’. I’m sorry if the rules in place were too hard for them to follow – I truly am – but by ignoring proper path to citizenship, we simply let these folks know that every rule can be broken with impunity.
