On the April 16 episode of “The Daily Show” Jon Stewart ranted about Fox News covering the ”war on women” issue and then in a demonstration to purposefully cause outrage he went on to show a picture of a naked woman with her legs spread wide apart with a manger scene ornament in between. If you really must see the pic to see how offensively, disgusting and blasphemous this picture is you can view it here. I think I need some brain bleach after seeing that patently offensive and disturbing picture. Out of respect for my blog followers I will NOT post the picture here. Then Jon Stewart went onto say this, “Maybe women could protect their reproductive organs from unwanted medical intrusions with vagina mangers.”
It is my opinion that any self-respecting person, especially Catholic Christians, should stop watching this garbage which masquerades as comedy. How can one say that they advocate for, defend and respect their religion if they continue to watch shows which air these types of blasphemous and possibly sacrilegious attacks on our faith? By doing so these people who watch this dog doo doo are allowing sin and the devil to enter their lives.
From Bill Donohue of the Catholic League:
This unprecedented vulgar assault on Christians cannot stand. If Jon Stewart doesn’t apologize, we will mount a boycott of his show’s advertisers. And we will enlist our allies in the Protestant, Jewish, Mormon and Muslim communities.
Bill Donohue has started a campaign to target the sponsors of “The Daily Show” and pressure them into yanking their advertising for Jon Stewart’s show. I don’t know whether this tactic will produce results or not but I support Donohue in standing up for all Christians against this anti-Christian garbage. At least part of the reason for this is to force Stewart to apologize. This I disagree with. Fake apologies are worthless in my book. Sincerity of heart is very important so apologizing when it is forced upon you, when you really don’t mean a word that you say would mean that the words would ring hollow IMO.

Noel,
Your habit of addressing my wife with a capitalized title “Sister” leaves me wondering whether you have assumed more than what was intended by her use of St. Teresa of Avila’s image as an avatar.
It is obvious that Jon Stewart’s segment was, among other things, an attack on religion. The fact that attacking Christianity was not his main intention and Christianity was at most a secondary target (Fox News seemed to be the primary target) does nothing to diminish this fact. Stewart’s profound lack of respect for religion in general and Christianity in particular allowed him to demonstrate his contempt for it as a way of making a totally unrelated point. If a kidnapper kills one of his captives as a demonstration of his resolve and as a way to inflict horrible suffering on the one for whom the demonstration was intended as a message, that does not mean that the captive killed was not attacked. It only shows how little respect the attacker had for the object/victim of his demonstrative act.
I have nothing but contempt for your absurd and self-defeating swipe at Bill Donohue, whose important work is not even a slight distraction from the Great Commission. Defending the Church and the faith from diabolically inspired attacks is a very noble way of fulfilling that commission. The world will know us by our love for each other, that is, how Catholics come to the aid of other Catholics and the Church. If you think that defending the faith from attacks in the media is so politically charged as to be a distraction from “teaching the gospel and helping the poor”, I am wondering how you justify your criticism of him in the comment space on this blog, which does not appear to be didactic, much less charitable. But perhaps you are the type of “Catholic” who thinks that there is not even a conceptual distinction between teaching the gospel and improving the material condition of the poor. In that event, I will remind you that there is more than one way to help the poor. Standing up for the faith and defending the Church from diabolical attack helps everyone that the Church helps, especially the poor. As for whether Mr. Donohue helps the poor materially, I think that that is a safe assumption, if an assumption must be made on that matter at all. It is certainly uncharitable to assume otherwise.
I am in constant awe of the Divine Restraint and actually believe we should be praying for Jon Stewart – (He knows not what he does – really – he can’t have a grasp on who God is, and do this stuff) His day will come and I don’t think he gets that.
As far as his advertisers – absolutely – vote with your dollars! I haven’t watched Jon Stewart or any of the night time comedians since they started insulting Christians and conservatives regularly.
For my part I quite agree. We must pray for Jon Stewart. I am not even the tiniest bit angry at him for the reason you give – he is barely conscious of what he is doing. I don’t think there was any malice in it against Christians or our faith – his ire was aimed at Fox News. . As I was saying to Noel above, it was as if he were a kidnapper who decided to kill a hostage in order to send a message. You could picture such a person addressing the hostage and saying, “Sorry about this. Believe me, it’s nothing personal,” before pulling the trigger.
Unfortunately, if we are to boycott his advertisers, we must know who they are, which means someone will have to bite the bullet and expose himself to Daily Show drek, if only to write down the companies buying commercial time.
I am in full agreement with you Saraspondence. With our prayers hopefully Jon Stewart will have a conversion of heart. God Bless.
I’m not easily offended, but “vagina mangers” has got to be one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever heard. Maybe I should be angered by the whole thing, but it actually saddens me. People really have no idea what harm they are doing to their own precious souls.
I’m so coarsened that I doubt it would shock me, although I’ll not follow the link just in case. What does offend me is the fact that this vulgarity is considered “humorous.” Don’t they know that is a serious insult to all people who are actually funny?
Oh and also, Jon who? LOL because I never watch, and I’ve read recently that not that many do watch:
