I found this via Tito at The American Catholic. A few days ago Newt Gingrich was interviewed by Hannity. A question on the topic of faith came up during the interview. Gingrich spoke about receiving the Eucharist. Newt Gingrich said receiving the Eucharist brings me peace.
I can very much relate to what Newt said. The Eucharist brings peace to me, too.

It is a blessing that we can receive the Eucharist. Some weeks, I am longing for it. It gives me peace for sure and an added dose of patience – one of my challenges.
Certainly I won’t look at Newt the same way again after this interview. Thanks for it!
[...] Newt Gingrich on His Catholic Faith and the Eucharist [...]
I’m afraid Mr. Gingrich — distinguishing his views on when life begins from the Church’s, and on Mary’s sinlessness (see link)– is taking cafeteria Catholic positions.

@Kneeling catholic
Did you have a quote of what Gingrich actually said? I saw something from TPM on your site but since TPM isn’t a reliably conservative site and I only saw paraphrasing I am somewhat skeptical of what they say.
How is Newt able to receive the Eucharist when he has been twice divorced? Doesn’t his current marriage put him under the moral sin of Adultery by the act of marriage, and this must be removed before he may receive the Eucharist?
@Greg
Newt is a convert to the Catholic Faith. I think he converted somewhere around 2002. I don’t know all the ins and outs of how annulments work but before Newt could convert he was required to get an annulment. The Church granted it I guess in part because those marriages took place outside the Church. So, the adultery impediment would have been removed after the annulment went through.
The hypocrisy makes me sick. This is not true Catholicism…buying your way through multiple annulments. Can THAT be what Jesus intended? No.
A poor woman who divorces her abusive husband cannot afford an annulment….and therefore cannot receive communion. That is just plain wrong. Yet Newt Gingrich, adulterer and EVIL man, can receive the blessing of Communion. I have heard stories where legislators who uphold the current law regarding abortion are denied communion. Yet this evil man is able to receive?
Am I the only person who is not comfortable that this hypocrite “converted” to be a Baptist and now “converted” to be a catholic? And his cheating WIFE who had a 6 year affair while Gingrich’s wife was treated for uterine cancer??? They both make me sick.
Would someone please explain to me why Catholics should vote for Newt Gingrich who introduced legislation in 1997 (H.R. 41) which would have expanded the use of the death penalty to consensual crimes. Newt has stated that he admires the justice system of Singapore where they routinely execute their citizens for consensual crimes and torture their citizens for minor crimes. How many of my fellow Catholics now support the death penalty, even in non-murder cases? I am awaiting your reply…
First, I am not for the death penalty in non-murder cases. Second, Please explain exactly what you mean by consensual crimes and which consensual crimes specifically are being referred to. I have to research more on H.R. 41. Plus, I would want to know whether Newt still supports this legislation. Third, you do realize that Newt wasn’t a Catholic when he supported this piece of legislation? With that being said, he may not have had an informed conscience at the time.
I too am having trouble with the fact that Newt receives communion after such vile and immoral behavior. I believe in gift of penance and forgiveness but he should not be receiving the gift of the Eucharist. This is a poor reflection on the Catholicism, making our faith appear that it can be bought.
I also agree with Carol that people have been denied annulments for lesser offenses.

What little I remember about the annulment process I am not a fan of it. There should be one price for an annulment instead of different dioceses having different costs for annulments. With saying that, as Newt was entering the Catholic Faith is when he was granted annulments by the Church. After that happened, his previous marriages are a non-issue. Now he seems to be a faithful Catholic and to judge what is in his heart or accuse him of sinning and saying that he shouldn’t be receiving Communion is wrong. He has been forgiven for his past sins.
